Slowly they turn, inch by inch, creeping toward their unexpecting prey from the dark corners of the world, and then the spiders pounce and inject venom into the subject finally to wrap them in their silken web. Is it no wonder that spider costumes are one of the main staples of Halloween. The image strikes terror into the hearts of many.

It must be the fact that they live in the dark damp corners or that they hop and crawl over you. I get the creeps just writing about them- I think something just brushed against my foot… EEK!

What is it about spiders that gets into our mind and soul that strikes fear? maybe its the juicy bulbous bodies that we imagine full of poison or it could be that they like to be around at night and in the dark. It seems kind of funny though. You can get some really cute spider costumes and there are a few semi-scary ones too. But it is difficult to really find a terrifying spider costume. Especially when there are so many different kind of scary spiders out in the real world, not to mention the mutate and mystical spiders found in TV shows and movies.

Take for instance the move Arachnophobia. It is a story about some giant spider from a distant jungle that has babies and takes over a small rural community. It will surely give you a fright.

This is an official Marvel Heros costume and comes complete with the body suit in the traditional blue and red with black web details, as well as the pull over head mask.  You might look into getting the child spiderman gloves and maybe even some red boot covers to complete the costume look.

Itsy-Bitsy spider is a children’s nursery rhyme story that is also known as Incy Wincy Spider.  It actually became an animated cartoon on USA Cartoon Express for a while too.

What is our fascination with spiders?  Is it their eight hairy legs? Or that they are so mysterious in that the seem to pop up out of nowhere from some dark crack.  Perhaps it is their incredible ability to spin silken webs?  What every they are, they are so creepy that there is actually a phobia named after them- arachnophobia.

Amazing Spiderman Costume
This muscle chest Spider-man costume is one of the more traditional looking outfits for our Marvel hero.  It is the basic bright blue with the red accents covered in the black webbing.  Red boots and Spidey gloves are available separately but they really add to the costume.

Your child will look like they stepped right out of the comic books.  The only thing is that costumes don’t come with the ability to climb walls or sling webs!   But I am willing to guess that the Spider-man costumes will stick on your kids like a sticky spider web and it will be tough to get them out of it and into the bath after a long night of Halloween fun.

Spider Girl Costume
Here is a web spinner for ya.  Introducing Spider-girl.  For the girly girl Spidey lovers out there, this classic red and blue Spiderman dress is a great Halloween costume. The layered blue skirt is full of sparkles for that feminine touch.  And we cant mess with the hairdo so this costume has a black mask to hide our heroine’s  true identity.  Black boots or red ones are a great addition to this outfit.

Venom Spider-Man Costume
Venom is a version of Spiderman that has been taken control of by a black animate goo from space.  He is such an anti-hero that he actually has his own comic series.

This suit has padded arms and chest to give that superhero, or in this case villain, body appearance.  It is a full black jumpsuit that has a printed spider emblem in silver on the chest.  Slip the matching mask and hood over your head and be transformed this Halloween.  The line between good and bad is as thin as a spiders silk web.  Where do you stand?

Glow in Dark Spiderman Costume
Another Marvel comic official costume that puts a spin on the traditional Spiderman costume.  This one Glows!  It is so cool.  Turn the lights out and see the glowing eyes & web and spider on the chest floating in the darkness.

This suit comes in sizes ranging from 4-14 so it will fit most kids.  It of course is the classic Blue and Red coloring and has the matching hood mask.  It is mostly polyester so it is easy to throw in the washing machine and dryer when you kid wears it so much that you have to pry it off and clean it.
